Why Meaningful Employee Perks Are Key to Keeping Teams Engaged

This week on The JSA Blog, we’re sharing some news based on what we are seeing in the current marketplace.

Workplace perks that demonstrate genuine appreciation and recognition can help bring a sense of value and belonging among employees. The key is putting some thought into what employee perks your organization offers. One aspect that many employers get wrong: they start from a perspective of company image instead of finding out what would really resonate with their team.

When the main perspective is the company image, this often leads to perks such as company-branded swag or another office pizza party. Although these may appear harmless and benign, it can often lead employees to feel unappreciated and unmotivated.

On the other hand, when a company gives their people something that they truly value, it shows that the organization cares about their employees and has put some deep thought into it.

Some tips:

  • Send out a company wide poll and see what your people would like as a workplace perk.
  • Understand that you can’t please everyone, 100%. Do your best.
  • Think about things like casual dress code days, flexible work from home days, wellness programs, on-site childcare, pet-friendly office policy, etc.
